T<\/span><\/strong><\/span>his past winter asked more of me than I expected.<\/strong> While the world was preparing for Thanksgiving weekend gatherings, I found myself lost and afraid. My mom suddenly and unexpectedly passed away just days after Thanksgiving. In an instant, a season known for warmth and togetherness became one of mourning\u2014of learning how to stand still while everything felt undone.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Her loss unraveled parts of me I thought were steady. It brought confusion, questions, and a deep ache that reshaped my understanding of time and presence. In the quiet that followed, I realized I could no longer ignore the gentle nudge to fully embrace the life I\u2019ve been given. I have always tried to live with intention, but grief intensified that awareness. We truly do not know how many days we are granted.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/span><\/div>\r\n<\/span><\/div>\r\n

Being forced to slow down became an unexpected invitation inward. I began to see that my connection to God was not simply a comfort\u2014it was essential. Choosing to spend time daily in prayer, allowing myself space to cry and grieve, and stepping back from the constant noise of the world created room for something steady beneath the sorrow. In tending to my own heart, I found I could be more present for my family. They became my daily focus, grounding me in what was right in front of me. That focus was healing in ways I could not have anticipated.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I leaned into silence. I created gentler rhythms. Instead of rushing into productivity, I lingered longer in morning snuggles with my toddler. I began waking early to sit in the quiet of my home\u2014praying, reading my Bible, watching the sunrise. Even a few uninterrupted minutes with my husband before he left for work became sacred. These small practices carried me through the winter months. <\/span>I didn\u2019t realize at the time how much they were rebuilding me from the inside out. Quietly, steadily, they were teaching me how to stay present in my own life again.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I also released the pressure to maintain perfection. The house did not have to be spotless. I did not have to constantly strive or prove. I allowed myself to say no to outside expectations and yes to self-care, to preservation, to my family. Placing God at the center gave me the strength to let go of what was not truly serving my life. In balancing grief with daily responsibilities, I learned how to hold both loss and love at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

What I discovered through this season is that strength is often quieter than we imagine. Grief and resilience look different for everyone, and that is okay. Caring for myself in a deeper, more intentional way strengthened my trust in God and expanded my capacity to love others well. Tending to the self did not distance me from those around me\u2014it allowed me to show up more fully.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Winter taught me that tending to the self is not retreat; it is preparation. It is an act of courage and clarity. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is remain connected to who we are becoming, even in the midst of loss. We learn to see life in a new light. The path forward may take time, but time itself is not something to rush. There is growth in the stillness, and there is power in choosing to remain grounded\u2014mind, body, and soul\u2014through every season.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
