Are you looking to learn how to create rich depth on the surfaces of your ceramic work? In this skill-building workshop, Taylor will demonstrate how she creates layered surfaces on unfired clay. Students will experiment with decorating techniques such as stamping, slip trailing, carving, and underglaze painting using paper resists on both soft and bone dry tile or pots. Wheel or handbuilding experience is encouraged but not a requirement. Bring your favorite smoothing, carving, and painting tools. Trailing bottles, brushes, underglaze, and paper for cutting stencils will be provided.
Materials to bring:
- Favorite clay tools for making simple tile or pots
- Favorite carving tools
- Notebook and pen/pencil
Optional materials to bring:
- Brushes
- Newsprint stencils cut into simple shapes
- Personal toiletries (shampoo, hairdryer, etc. — linens and towels are provided)
- Snacks
- Personal tools
- Water bottle
- Layers for cool evenings
- Hiking shoes
- Raincoat
